Rhossili Down
Green ridge above the bay – soarable in west to south-west winds.
South-west Wales · Base Rhossili Bay · 3 Apr – 2 May 2027 · 4 weeks
Rhossili is our base. Because south-west Wales is packed with extremely good flying sites, we explore the region even when Rhossili itself is flyable.
Pack a rain jacket. And sunscreen.
The place and its people
Rhossili lies at the far western tip of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales: a small, picturesque village with one of the most visually stunning flying sites in the world, a huge bay and above it the green ridge of Rhossili Down. After flying we meet in the pub and enjoy the sunset with a Guinness on the cliffs of the bay.
The locals are unbelievably warm-hearted. The local club is absolutely helpful and incredibly hospitable to us visiting pilots, and the two southern paragliding clubs in Wales invite us to fly with friends. Their flying sites cover almost every wind direction within an hour and a half's drive of the accommodation.
On days without flying: beautiful beaches, castles to visit, archery, kiting and much more.

Launch sites
Rhossili Down is our home hill right above the bay. From there we explore the whole region.

The absolute cracker: if you know the Wasserkuppe and its south slope – this flying site is just the same, only ten times the size. We love Bryncaws and the locals there, endless support. With a south-east wind we happily accept the hour and a half's drive from Rhossili any time.
Launch as usual at Rhossili Down, drift across to the north-west-facing cliffs – soaring at its finest. We keep an eye on wind and tidal range, you can simply fly and enjoy.
Flying site of our partner club SE Wales: the locals are just as warm and helpful, we were invited to simply soar along. Nils made it from here all the way to England – 20 kilometres. Everyone flew for hours, then there was a Guinness on the house; we supported the club with a donation.

After flying
Guinness on tap, good food and the view over Rhossili Bay – at low tide and high tide alike; the tidal range averages 9.5 metres.
