Sandpit, midnight sun, northern lights

Jenny's photo – Sand bath, midnight sun, northern lights

This time I could put into practice so much of what I had learned on the coast the year before. In this big sandpit I simply felt at ease with the wing. If it drags me along a bit, I brake in the sand. And that doesn't hurt straight away.

I could already run up the dunes with the wing much better and work on my technique. Add to that those long summer days that felt like they never ended. It stayed light almost all night. And for the first time I saw northern lights, a few times during that period. Simply really special.

I also noticed: even when Kai is no longer standing next to you, he's keeping an eye on you. No matter where you are, no matter whether he's looking after someone else right now. He always has an eye on you.

And for the first time I really became aware of this community. There's always someone by your side to help you, even when Kai is somewhere else. It may sound corny, but it's like a big family. With some you're close, with others less so. Sometimes you have little contact, then a huge amount again. But when the community comes together at a spot, it's as if you last saw each other yesterday. And anyone new joining a course is welcomed without reservation. People simply help. Brilliant.
