Who it's for

What you bring

Guiding is for pilots who have already done an SPT week with us and who are allowed and able to fly on their own. Kai tells you where and when – launching, flying and landing you do yourself.

  • An SPT week with us: You've already been on one of our training weeks. That way we know you and your flying – it's the requirement for guiding.

  • Valid licence: A or B licence (DHV), IPPI 4 or 5 or equivalent. We ask for the number when you book.

  • Liability insurance for paragliding, valid in Spain.

  • Complete, checked equipment with reserve, helmet and PMR radio. Vario and GPS recommended.

  • Ready to launch on your own: You assess the launch site and conditions yourself, launch cleanly in coastal wind and land where you intended to.

Inside a guiding week

  1. Morning: weather and plan

    Short briefing at the Casa: wind, tides, which spot works today. There’s no fixed time – Kai announces it the evening before.

  2. To the spot

    Famara cliff, Pechos, Macher, Mala – around the island there's a site for almost every wind direction. You need a hire car – we drive in convoy behind Kai. Driving isn’t included in the price.

  3. Flying

    Site briefing at the launch, then you fly. Kai is in the air with you or at the landing field, depending on the site. Soaring, thermals, a cross-country leg to the Mirador – whatever the day offers.

  4. Evening: sundowner

    Evening flight at Famara beach or prawns in Mala. Once a week a Spanish cook makes dinner for everyone at the Casa.

    From groundhandling to the coast

    Kai got his licence in 2014 – after 600 hours of groundhandling before his first free flight. Then a year and a half of thermal and cross-country flying in the flatlands, mainly in the Rhön. Since 2016 he has flown only at the coast, with honest wind – and has been a DHV flight instructor since 2016.

    Lanzarote and Parakites

    In 2018 he developed his own groundhandling techniques for Lanzarote (exit, launching with the ears pulled in and more) and led the first Lanzarote flying trip. He has flown Parakites since 2024, and since 2026 he has been a FLARE partner and a member of the DHV Parakite committee.

Frequently asked questions about guiding

Before you book

Is my licence valid for the guiding on Lanzarote?

The requirement for guiding is an SPT week with us – that's how we know you and your flying. You also need a valid licence (A or B licence, IPPI 4 or 5 or equivalent) and third-party liability insurance that's valid in Spain. We ask for your licence number with your enquiry, and Lisa checks it before confirming. With your IPPI card and proof of insurance you may fly in the Canaries as a guest; there’s no guest fee.

What's the difference between guiding and an SPT week?

On a guiding week, Kai shows you the island's flying sites, briefs you on the terrain and flies with you – he doesn't train you and doesn't correct you over the radio. You fly on your own responsibility. That's why guiding is only for pilots who have already done an SPT week with us. If you want to learn groundhandling, launch technique or soaring, an SPT week is the place for you.

What happens on a guiding week if the wind isn't right?

Then we drive to where it is – around the island there's a site for almost every wind direction. If nothing works at all, it's a no-fly day: Timanfaya, La Graciosa, beach. There's no guarantee of flying days, and no-fly days aren’t refunded. The guiding takes place from one pilot upwards.

How do I request the guiding, and how do I pay?

On the guiding page you choose your week and send a binding request – with your name, address, licence number and your SPT week with us. Lisa checks your details and confirms by email within two days – only then is your place fixed. Kai sends the invoice separately by e-mail: €300 by bank transfer within 14 days, no deposit. Up to 14 days before the week you can cancel free of charge or rebook onto a free week; after that the full price is due – unless someone who has done an SPT week takes your place.
